About

Welcome to this website, which shares theory, practice, opinions and resources for strategic planning, evaluation, monitoring, training and capacity development, and more. Opinions are my own and do not reflect the views of any of my past, present or future employers.

I am a dedicated professional with 30 years’ experience working with civic, public, and private organizations seeking sustainable solutions for social and environmental challenges. While my background includes roles in monitoring and evaluation (M&E), I work with a range of other interrelated processes supporting international development and humanitarian work, including policy and strategy development, organizational capacity assessment and development, and adult learning and knowledge sharing. Much of my work focuses on information generation, management and use, contributing to evidence-based learning, helping organizations critically examine, understand and pursue goals.

My work has taken me to over 40 countries, engaging with a range of stakeholders, from CEOs to refugees. Job and assignments include different thematic areas at both the headquarters and field level, including climate change, community resilience, disaster recovery and risk management, sustainable agriculture and livelihoods, and migration. My work across diverse geographies has cultivated a high level of cultural competence and respect for gender and social inclusion in all aspects of my work.

My academic training is in geography (UCLA), with a concentration on cultural and political ecology. Cultural ecology explores human adaptations to social and physical environments, while political ecology examines political, economic and social factors that shape how we shape the environment.  The tenants of both disciplines shaped my focus on complex systems analysis to inform realistic solutions for sustainable impact. In the past five years, I have applied this expertise to support evaluation and strategic planning for transformational change, aligning with the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Prior jobs include the Director of Evidence, Measurement and Evaluation for climate change at the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), and Senior M&E Advisor with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and I have consulted with a variety of clients, including Climate Investment Funds, the Adaptation Fund, and the Adrienne Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Center, and the German Institute for Development Evaluation, and the UN Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA).

I participate in a variety of professional networks and associations for M&E, development and humanitarian work. Currently, I serve on the Board of Trustees for the International Evaluation Academy and am an active member in the International Working Group for the American Evaluation Association and in EvalSDGs. I have authored publications, delivered professional development training, and actively engage in forums at the intersection of sustainable development and transformational change.
